History of Brent Anderson in Comic Book Art

Brent Anderson began drawing fanzines while still in quite young, his earliest professional work could be found in independent and underground publications like All-Slug, Tesserae and Venture throughout the mid-seventies. 

His first work for Marvel Comics came in 1981 when he was assigned to pencil the Bruce Jone's series, Ka-Zar the Savage. During this time he provided artwork for a variety of other popular Marvel titles like Strikeforice: Morituri. Following the success of his first assignments, Anderson then drew the Marvel Graphic Novel #5, entitled X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills. 

While working for Marvel, Anderson also freelanced for other independent publishers like Pacific Comics and Eclipse Comics on titles including Somerset Holmes. 

He co-created the award-winning series Astro City, along with writer Kurt Busiek and cover artist Alex Ross. In addition to that he worked on the spin-off series Rising Stars: Untouchable and the over 200-page graphic novel Jar of Ashes, written by Shirley Johnston. 

In 2010, Anderson collaborated with writer Marv Wolfman on the one-shot Green Lantern/Plastic Man: Weapons of Mass Deception as well as Green Lantern: The Last Will and Testament of Hal Jordan. He has also drawn for the series Phantom Stranger.

Anderson is also a talented cover artist, providing the cover art for titles like The Incredible Hulk Annual #12, Power Pack #19, Battlestar Galactica #21 and Blade Runner #2.

Anderson has won numerous awards over his career such as an Inkpot Award in 1985, several Eisner Awards in 1996 including Best New Series and Best Single Issue. Again in 1997 and 1998, he took home multiple Eisner Awards for Best Single Issue and Best Continuing Series.

He also won three Harvey Awards for Best New Series, Best Single Issue and Best Graphic Album in 1996 and 1997. He won the Best Achievement by Penciller Don Thompson Award in 1996.
