Jim Balent
Jim Balent is a comic book artist, writer and publisher most known for his run on the series Catwoman from 1994 to 1999.
Balent has also drawn for other DC Comics titles like Batman, Detective Comics, Green Lantern Corps Quarterly, Sgt. Rock, Showcase '95, Lobo and more.
His earliest work for DC was drawing backup stories for Sgt. Rock like The Deadliest Casualty in issue #393 and The Ninja in #397.
In 1993, he launched the Catwoman series along with writer Jo Duffy, and dew the series from issue #1 to #77. Balent would also draw several Batman crossover stories like Contagion, Cataclysm and No Man's Land. He drew the retailer exclusive variant cover art for Batman vol. 3 #50 for Jetpack Comics / Forbidden Planet. He also collaborated with writer Chuck Dixon to create Geist in Detective Comics Annual #6.
Balent has also drawn for indepedent comic book publishers. such as Chaos! Comics on series like Purgatori.
In 1999, Balent created his own publishing company called BroadSword Comics, which published titles such as Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose which Balent writes and draws himself.
In 2009, BroadSword Comics won three of the 25 categories in the inaugural Project Fanboy Awards. The publisher was also nominated for ten other categories at the MegaCon convention. Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose won Best Title and Best Indy Title and the series' villain, Raven Hex won the category of Best Indy Villain.
