Larry Elmore
Larry Elmore began working in illustration following his service in the US Army. He started getting work as an illustrator for the United States government in the Fort Knox Training Aids Department. After working there for three years, Elmore left to freelance for various magazines like Heavy Metal and National Lampoon.
Several years later one of Elmore's previous colleagues from his time working for the government introduced him the game Dungeons and Dragons. He was interested in the concept and in 1981, Elmore joined the staff of TSR Inc., the company that produced the game.
He was the company's first professional illustrator. He created artwork for the company's adventure modules, novels, and game books. He also handled their promotional artwork, making paintings, posters and calendars. It was there that he created the comic strip SnarfQuest which was featured in Dragon magazine.
In 1987, Elmore left TSR to illustrate collectible trading cards for the card game Magic: The Gathering. He also provided the cover art for EverQuest, a multi-player online role playing game.
He wrote a novel with his cousin in 1996 entitled Rune of Autumn. Later that same year he drew the black and white artwork for Traveller, a role-playing game by Marc Miller and produced by Imperium Games.
In the 2000s, Elmore returned to drawing SnarfQuest comic strips for the magazine Games Unplugged, published by Ken Whitman's Dynasty Productions however the run of the title was short-lived. In 2013, Elmore published a 336-page hardcover book of his artwork that spanned his entire forty year career.
