L.B. Cole art
LB Cole was a comic book artist, editor and publisher most commonly known for his cover art which he often painted.
During the 1940s, Cole worked for Holyoke Publications, Gilberton and Ajax/Farrell providing, both cover and interior art, as well as serving as an editor for Holyoke.
Cole regularly provided the cover art for titles like Suspense Comics and Contact Comics.
In 1942, Cole formed his own comics studio where he supplied a variety of publishers with work until the studio closed in 1948.
Cole was the cover artist for Blue Bolt Comics by Novelty Press and in 1949, he bought their characters and artwork and relaunched as Star Publications from 1949-1955. He continued to produce cover art after the closure of Star Publications for titles like Classics Illustrated Junior.
In the 1960s Cole became the art director and editor for Dell Comics.
He was also the cover artist for the 11th edition of the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide. Cole often made recreation cover art of classic titles as well to sell.
In 1981, Cole was awarded an Inkpot Award and in 1999 he was inducted into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame.
