Rich Buckler
Rich Buckler was a comic book artist who began working in the industry in the late 1960s. He is best known for his pencilling work on the Marvel Comics' series Fantastic Four. In addition to his notoriety as a penciller, he was also a prolific cover artist.
His earliest published work was cover art for Flash Gordon #10 for King Features Syndicate.
In 1971, he began working for DC Comics, drawing backup stories for the series DC Comics' series Superman's Girlfriend, Lois Lane from issue #117-121.
In 1973, Buckler drew the first three issues of the Black Panther series, written by Don McGregor before becoming the lead penciller for Fantasy Four. During his run on that series he created the cyborg antihero Deathlok.
He collaborated on the Superman vs. Shazam! story in All-New Collectors' Edition #C-58 with writer Gerry Conway in 1978. Buckler also had a run on The Incredible Hulk newspaper comic strip in 1979 for six months.
The World War II super-hero team All-Star Squadron was co-created by Buckler along with Roy Thomas in 1981, which they first featured in Justice League of America #193. A month later, the team launched their own title.
He briefly worked for Archie Comics from 1983-1984, but returned to Marvel Comics to draw for the Spectacular Spider-Man series with writer Peter David.
Buckler has also authored three books on how to do comic book art, the first of which was entitled How to Become a Comic Book Artist, followed by How to Draw Superheroes and then finally How to Draw Dynamic Comic Books in 2007.
Over his career, he also worked for Gold Key, Skywald Publishing, Warren Publishing, Now Comics, Image Comics and more.
He became an Inkwell Awards Ambassador in 2015.
