Roy Krenkel art
Roy Krenkel was a comic book artist and illustrator who specialized in fantasy and historical paintings and sketches. He provided cover art for numerous comics books, novels and magazines.
Krenkel attended Cooper Union's Art School and studied with George Bridgman at the Art Students League of New York prior to World War II. Following his service in the war, he attended classes at the Cartoonists and Illustrators School, where he was instructed by Burne Hogarth.
It was there that he met a group of young cartoonists that would go on the shape the industry, such as Frank Frazetta, Al Williamson and Joe Orlando, with whom he would later collaborate with at both EC and Marvel Comics.
Krenkel produced over 23 paperback book cover paintings, as well as frontispieces for many fantasy writers. He would also provide preliminary cover art for Frazetta to later perfect on Warren Publishing's series Creepy and Eerie.
Krenkel did the cover art and interiors for The Sowers of the Thunder and The Road of Azrael.
Krekel won the Hugo Award for Best Professional Artist in 1963.
