David Lloyd began working in the comic book industry during the late 1970s. He worked for a variety of Marvel UK titles, as well as drawing for Hall of Horror and TV Comic.
In 1982, Dez Skinn created Warrior Magazine and asked Lloyd to create a new pulp character to be featured in it. Lloyd and writer Alan Moore came up with the concept for a dystopian adventure series called V for Vendetta.
Lloyd and Moore had already collaborated on several projects together prior to the V for Vendetta series. The main protagonist was V, who resembled the appearance of Guy Fawkes and took to the streets to fight a fascist and futuristic government.
V for Vendetta was a regular feature in Warrior Magazine until it folded in 1984, but the V for Vendetta series was reprinted in colour and continued new issues published under DC Comics in 1988. The series was collected and published as a graphic novel in 1995 then later adapted into a feature length film in 2005.
The Guy Fawkes mask has since transcended into the real world as a symbol of protest against governments and other powerful institutions as protestors can often been seen wearing one.
Lloyd was also among the artists who worked on DC Comic's graphic horror anthology Wasteland, with writers John Ostrander and Del Close. He also drew for the series Hellblazer, written by Grant Morrison and Jamie Delano, and War Story with Garth Ennis.
Lloyd would collaborate with Delano again for Dark Horse Comics on the series The Territory. He also provided art for the series Global Frequency, written by Warren Ellis and published by WildStorm.
