Simon Bisley art
Simon Bisley began his artistic career drawing cover art for various magazines as well as album covers. His first full time position was designing T-shirt art for Kerrang!, a heavy metal magazine.
His first job in the comic book industry came after he was hired on by the UK based magazine 2000 AD. Although he'd had no formal training or experience in the field, 2000 AD decided to bring him aboard after they'd seen his interpretations of some of their own more popular characters.
While Bisley was still a student, he'd sent in a painting of a robot holding a baby which caught the attention of Pat Mills. Mills was so inspired by his rendition that he decided to relaunch the ABC Warriors strip and hired Bisley on as the artist in 1987.
From that first assignment, Bisley went on to be the artist on other regular series like Judge Dredd and Sláine.
Bisley has also been a regular contributor to the magazine Heavy Metal since 1997.
His unique artistic style is has been heavily influenced by artists like Frank Frazetta, Salvador Dali, Gustav Klimt, Richard Corben and Bill Sienkiewicz. Bisley has also said that he takes inspiration from street graffiti, rock album covers and even traditional art as well.
In 1990, he won an Eagle Award for Favourite Artists UK. His work on Judgement of Gotham won Bisley both an Eisner Award for Best Artist and also a UK Comic Art Award for Best Artist for Best Original Graphic Novel. He has also received numerous nominations for Best Cover Artist.
