Tom Mandrake
Tom Mandrake first created a fanzine with his friend L.B. Kellogg called First Flight while the two were still in high school. After high school, Mandrake attended Cleaveland's Cooper School of Art for two years, and then attended The Kubert School for two years, earning his degree there.
Following his graduation, Mandrake took a job with DC Comics, drawing backup stories for the title Sgt. Rock. He also worked for Marvel Comics, providing finished art over Sal Buscema's layouts on the New Mutants series.
During his time in the mid-1980's at DC Comics, he and writer Doug Moench created the Black Mask in Batman #386, and the Film Freak in Batman #395.
He and writer John Ostrander launched The Spectre series for DC Comics in 1992 and in issue #54, the duo introduced Micheal Holt, a character who brought forth a new version of Mister Terrific. Once that series came to an end the two collaborated on the series Martian Manhunter.
In 2007, Mandrake and Ostrander produced the story-arc titled 'Grotesk' which appeared in Batman issues #659-662. He also drew and co-wrote the 2010 crossover series X-Files/30 Days of Night, with creator Steve Niles and Adam Jones.
In 2011, Mandrake drew the one-shot DC Retroactive: Batman - The '70s, as well as a revival of Night Force by Marv Wolfman the following year.
From 2013-2014 he collaborated with J. Michael Straxzynski on the series Sidekick.
Mandrake has also provided artwork for other DC series including 52, Batman Confidential, DC Comics Presents, Detective Comics, Justice League of America, New Teen Titans, The Saga of Swamp Thing, Secret Origins, Suicide Squad, The Warlord and Wonder Woman.
He has also provided artwork for a number of Marvel series like G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, Hulk: Unchained, Ghost Rider / Blaze, Thor, The Punisher, Star Wars and X-Men Unlimited.
