History of Val Semeiks in Comic Book Art

Val Semeiks is a comic book artist who has been working in the industry since 1986. Semeiks works most prominently as a penciller, but is also no stranger to inking his own work.

His first credited work was drawing King Kull backup stories for Marvel's The Savage Sword of Conan, which would eventually lead to Semeiks becoming the primary artist on the popular monthly series, Conan the Barbarian.

Semeiks also had long runs series like The Demon and Lobo, while working for DC Comics. He served as both titles' artist while collaborating with writer Alan Grant. The two would also work together again in 1995 on John Wagner's DC/2000 AD crossover title, Lobo/Judge Dredd: Pyscho-Bikers vs. The Mutants From Hell.

Semeiks then returned to Marvel to draw for the series Wolverine, written by Larry Hama, as well as several other titles.

Several JLA projects saw Semeiks move back to DC Comics in 1999, working on titles like JLA/WildC.A.T.S., DC One Million and Superman's Nemesis: Lea Luthor, a limited series written by David Michelinie.

In 2002-2003, Semeiks pencilled two Batman stories, written by Dawayne McDuffie, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #156-158 and then #164-167.

Semeiks illustrated three issues of Flash #227-230 in 2006 and in 2009 he was also a contributing artist to the relaunch of Marvel's Web of Spider-Man.
