Brom began working in art world professionally by the age of 20, taking full-time work as a commercial illustrator. Some of his clients were corporate giants such as Coca-Cola, CNN, IBM and Columbia Pictures.
TSR, the makers of Dungeons and Dragons, hired him on full-time in 1989 for illustrate everything from book lines to board games, with Brom in charge of designing the look and feel of their Dark Sun campaign.
Many of Brom's paintings have been published for collectible card games, like Wizards of the Coast's Magic: The Gathering and Heresy: Kingdom Come by Last Unicorn Games.
The game series Warlords also drew upon the paintings of Brom for inspiration for their visual aesthetic of the game, published by Ubisoft.
Throughout the 1990s, Brom freelanced for other role-playing and card game publishers, fantasy and science-fiction publishers as well as the comic book industry.
Brom has provided artwork for comic book publishers like DC Comics, Chaos and Dark Horse Comics. Authors such as Michael Moorcock, Anne McCaffrey and Terry Brooks have all used Brom's artwork for the covers of their books.
He has also contributed conceptual artwork for computer and video games, like Heretic II, Sega and Activision. Brom co-created, illustrated and served as art director for the collectible card game Dark Age.
Brom entered the Origins Award Hall of Fame in 2019.
